I sketched this picture of George in PaintTool SAI this evening while testing it out for the first time. This is probably one of the first times I’ve ever been happy with a picture I drew of him.
I never knew why It was so hard to depict him until just now, when I had a rather humorous revelation…
You see, as I’ve specified on several occasions, George is my favorite— mostly for the back story and personality traits I’ve made about him that haven’t been given enough time to come to fruition with the story in its current state. Regardless, I’d say that his image and overall being are so cemented into my psyche that I am (or at least, was) incapable of illustrating it. I mean, it probably didn’t help that he, like many of my characters, started out as a Sonic the Hedgehog type furry thing. I think I was running in to trouble because I was trying to make him look too much like Laurie, and he started looking too old. I decided to go back to my original muse for George: Elijah Wood. Then I realized why I never used him as a reference for a sufficient amount of time….
I feel like, seven kinds of uncomfortable staring at him for long periods of time. It’s those eyes. I seriously feel like he is staring at my through the picture, that he KNOWS I’m drawing him, and HE’S JUDGING ME… Cough. So yeah. That’s why George has looked like shit ‘til now. Just needed time to man up is all. ~Grace
